It prevents lysosomal acidification, thereby interfering with a key step in the autophagic process.HCQ treatment inhibits RCC (renal cell cancer) cell growth, promotes apoptosis, inhibits mitochondrial oxygen consumption, and increases rates of glycolysis. It is also a TLR9 inhibitor.
