Levofloxacin, a synthetic fluoroquinolone, is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the supercoiling activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, halting DNA replication. Levofloxacin inhibits type II topoisomerases with IC50 values of 8.06 and 9.81 µg/ml for DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, and is used to treat respiratory, urinary tract, gastrointestinal, and abdominal infections.
